Bressan, Andrea

Born in 1968, Andrea Bressan has studied bassoon in Italy with Eros Adami, in Salzburg and Wien with Milan Turkovic and baroque and classical bassoon with Alberto Grazzi.
In 1989, Bressan wins an auditions to play with the “I Solisti Veneti” ensemble, at the beginning as second bassoon and then as principal and solo bassoon. This collaboration sees Bressan playing in the most important concert halls and opera theatres in Italy and Europe until 2006.
Since 1999 he plays as principal bassoon with the Budapest Festival Orchestra, playing until today in the most important concert halls around the world (Europe, USA, South America, China, Japan), recording CDs of Mahler and Brahms Symphonies with the label Channel Classics and participating to TV and Radio broadcastings.
From 2003 he has also a permanent collaboration with the Orchestra da Camera di Mantova.
Andrea Bressan has collaborated as principal bassoon with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, Torino Orchestra del Teatro Regio, Venice Orchestra del Teatro “La Fenice”, Orchestra dell’Opera di Roma, Orchestra del Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Orchestra Regionale Toscana, Orchestra Haydn di Bolzano, Orchestra da Camera Padova and Veneto, I Virtuosi Italiani, conducted by among others, Iván Fischer, Claudio Abbado, Daniel Harding, Franz Welser-Möst, Christopher Hogwood, Jeffrey Tate.
As soloist he played the most important bassoon concerts and bassoon and other soloist instruments with the Budapest Festival Orchestra, I Solisti Veneti, Serenissima Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra Stravinskij, Orchestra da Camera del Friuli, playing in Italy, Germany, Austria, Hungary, France, South Africa and South America. He received a special mention at the International competition Viotti in Vercelli in 1985, the first prize at the international competition in Tradate in 1989, the first prize at the Sándor Végh competition of Budapest in 2014. From 2003 he collaborates as soloist with the “Interpreti Veneziani” performing hundreds of concerts in Italy, France, Austria, Colombia and Australia.
Particularly interested in chamber music, Bressan won in this field in a number of national and international competition (Stresa, Moncalieri, RAI competition for chamber music, first prize for the national competition for duo in Corsico in 1986, second prize in duo among 90 ensembles at the competition “Riviera del Conero” in 1999) and has also participated to several chamber projects with musicians such as Alexander Lonquich, Franco Petracchi, Domenico Nordio, Rocco Filippini, Bart Schneemann, Enrico Bronzi, Antonio Ballista, Igor Roma.
He collaborates as baroque and classical bassoonist with Venice Baroque Orchestra, Concerto Italiano, Accademia Bizantina, Arte dell’Arco, Academia Montis Regalis, Il Complesso Barocco, Zefiro Ensemble, taking part to many European tournees (as a soloist as well) and recording with labels as Deutsche Grammophone, CPO, Amadeus, Brilliant, Egea, Naïve conducted by Rinaldo Alessandrini, Claudio Fasolis, Ottavio Dantone, Andrea Marcon, Giovanni Antonini.
His discography as soloist includes many titles, such as the Vivaldi concerto in E minor (Rivoalto, Interpreti Veneziani), the Divertimento for bassoon and strings of Adriano Lincetto (Velut Luna, I solisti Italiani), the recital for bassoon and piano “Le grand duo” (Velut Luna), the Vivaldi E minor concerto for cello, bassoon and strings (with Mario Brunello cellist, Egea, Arte dell’Arco)), the complete opera of Vivaldi Concerti a Cinque (Brilliant, Collegium Pro musica), the CD “Variazioni Climatiche” in duo with the vibraphone player Saverio Tasca (Velut Luna), the CD “Philippe Hersant: Music for bassoon” (Brilliant classics).
He has taught in master classes and courses in Italy, Austria, Hungary, Belgium, Brasil and Turkey, and he holds the teacher position at the Conservatorio “C. Pollini” in Padova.
