György Markó began studying music in his home town of Pápa at the age of seven. Having graduated from the Győr Conservatory, in 1969 he was admitted to the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, where he studied under István Csurgay and graduated in 1975. He was accepted into the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra in 1974. In 1985 he joined the Concentus Hungaricus Chamber Orchestra, formed by musicians of the Radio Orchestra. He has been a member of the Budapest Festival Orchestra since 1992, when it became a permanent ensemble. As a member of the Eckhardt Quartet in December 2000 he participated in the European première of Marc Neikrug’s Concerto for String Quartet and Orchestra. György Markó also regularly performs in the Budapest Festival Orchestra’s chamber music concerts.
